Introduction to window accessories
Window accessories are all those complementary components that are used in the installation, operation and maintenance of windows. These accessories allow the windows to adequately fulfill their ventilation, lighting, security and insulation functions, in addition to facilitating their opening, closing and fixing.
In construction, window accessories are essential to ensure the durability, functionality and aesthetics of the windows. Its correct selection and installation directly influence the comfort and energy efficiency of buildings.
Types of accessories for windows
Hardware
Hardware is the metal or plastic accessories that allow the opening, closing and fixing of windows. These include hinges, handles, locks, latches and bolts. Their design and functionality vary depending on the type of window and frame material.
Hinges allow the window sash to rotate or move, and can be of different types: piano, double action, hidden or security. The handles and pulls facilitate manual operation, while the locks ensure the security and sealing of the window.
The quality of the hardware is key to avoiding problems such as premature wear, corrosion or difficulty in operation, especially in humid environments or exposed to severe weather conditions.
Gaskets and sealing seals
Gaskets and seals are used to prevent air, water and dust from leaking through the windows. They are generally made of elastomeric materials such as rubber, silicone or EPDM, which offer flexibility and resistance to the elements.
These accessories contribute to improving the thermal and acoustic insulation of the windows, increasing the interior comfort and energy efficiency of the building. They are placed in the frames, sashes and contact points between them or between the glass and the frame.
The appropriate choice of gaskets and seals depends on the type of window, its location and the weather conditions to which it will be exposed, ensuring long durability and good functional performance.
