Urban planning library
Introduction
The Vitruvio Network is a network of specialized art, architecture, design and urban planning libraries that brings together fifty-three libraries and documentation centers, belonging to museums, academies, universities, educational institutions, professional entities and others, both in the public and private spheres of different locations throughout Argentina and some Latin American countries.[1][2].
History
In 1994, in the Library - Documentation Center of the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urbanism (FADU) of the University of Buenos Aires "Library of the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urbanism (UBA)"), twenty-seven institutions, both public and private, were invited, starting with the libraries of the Central Society of Architects (SCA) and the Professional Council of Architecture and Urbanism (CPAU), since they concentrated the largest amount of specialized documentation that he was interested in promoting. That was the 1st Meeting of Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Planning Libraries, and by the consensus of all those present, the Vitruvio Network was created.[1].
The name Vitruvius given to the network arises from the contribution of Prof. Roberto Cagnoli, director of the Library of the University of Palermo, present at the first meeting.
Marcos Vitruvius Pollio, 88-26 BC, is a Roman character, considered the father of design and architecture. He is the author of De Architectura, a treatise in ten books known as The Ten Books of Architecture, which from the Renaissance and with the advent of the printing press was one of the first architectural treatises that were disseminated in Europe and then in America. Even today it is the only treatise of classical antiquity and the oldest preserved.
The annual meetings of the Vitruvio network, started in 1994, are a space where they present the actions, new products and services of the work subcommittees, keynote conferences by specialists, reports and management progress, network news, the members exchange opinions and proposals and renew the authorities of the coordinating commission, by vote of those present.
