Urban planning by phases
Introduction
The urbanization process is the progressive concentration and increase of population and economic activities in cities.[1].
Main causes of urbanization
The urbanization process is due to the following factors:.
• - Search for employment or a better paying job.
• - Build, buy or rent a home.
• - Better quality of health and educational services.
• - Access to higher education.
• - Access to drinking water and sanitation.
• - Access to electricity and internet.
• - Access to larger markets, where more products are offered than in rural areas.
• - Absence of government in rural areas.
• - Greater security and more police presence than in rural areas.
• - Natural growth or population growth in urban areas and the reclassification of rural areas as urban areas.[2].
In demography, urbanization is called the phenomenon by which migration occurs from the rural environment (countryside) to the urban environment (cities). This phenomenon gains strength at the end of the century but it is during the century and when it reaches great importance. Thus, in 1950, 30% of the world's population was urban - 70% of the population lived in rural areas. In 2007, the planet's urban population surpassed the rural population for the first time in history. In 2018 the urban population reaches 55% of the world population and it is estimated that in 2050 66% (two thirds) of the world population will live in cities. This phenomenon is producing depopulation in many rural areas. Urbanization brings with it not only the depopulation of rural areas but also a drop in the fertility rate.[3].
Urbanization levels and trends
Contenido
