Urban habitat assessment
Introduction
The Global Assessment Report on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services is a report published on May 6, 2019 by the United Nations Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services during the IPBES plenary session no. 7 held from April 29 to May 6 in Paris.[1].
Description
The report was developed over 3 years by a panel of 145 experts from 50 countries and the contribution of another 310 authors.[2][3] The report is more than 1800 pages long and is the product of the systematic review of more than 15,000 academic articles and government reports.[4][5].
Conclusions
Among the report's conclusions, the following highlighted by recognized newspapers and websites stand out:
• - More than a million species are at risk of extinction due to human actions on the planet[6].
• - The loss of biodiversity is a threat to human well-being[7].
• - The direct drivers of these changes are, classified from most to least important, are: 1. changes in the use of land and the sea; 2. direct exploitation of species; 3. climate change; 4. pollution; and 5. invasive exotic species.[8].
