In the museum construction process, a digital twin was used that combined BIM (Building Information Modeling) and 3D scanning technologies. This made it possible to synchronize the assembly of the entire complex with a comprehensive network of nodes distributed throughout the building, enabling real-time verification of the construction. In addition, robotic multi-point forming technology molded the millimeter pieces that support the structure, with a level of detail that makes them unbreakable supports.[6]​[11]​[12][10]​.

Aiming to achieve the maximum three-star rating from China's Green Building Assessment Standard, the museum's passive design features, coupled with intelligent management networks operating high-efficiency systems, are expected to reduce the building's energy consumption to 15.47 kWh/m² per year. This, in turn, will reduce emissions from electricity demand to an estimated 125.89 kgce/m² per year. The construction of the museum prioritized the use of 389,238.92 tons of recyclable materials. Likewise, its water management system implements gray water recycling and rainwater collection and storage, projecting a reduction in total water consumption to an estimated 14,906 cubic meters per year.[6]​.

The design of the museum, by the firm Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA),[6]​ is notable for its futuristic aesthetic that resembles an interstellar spaceship.[4]​[7]​[3]​ The building features a solid, spherical volume that extends to the west, transforming into a dynamic sequence of exterior terraces overlooking the park. [6]​ These terraces are not only an aesthetic element, but also functional extensions of the galleries, offering rest spaces for visitors and adding a new dimension to the urban space.[4]​[6]​.

Inside, the museum has a central atrium from which the permanent and temporary exhibition galleries depart. Thermal performance, natural lighting, wind levels and air quality were also analyzed to maximize the efficiency of the building envelope in reducing energy consumption. As the museum is located in the subtropical climate of Shenzhen, the design optimizes energy conservation during hot and humid summers, combining the high thermal insulation performance of its envelope with high-efficiency glazing, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems, lighting and intelligent building management systems.[3]​.

To mitigate direct exposure to the elements and solar radiation, a stainless steel panel system creates a ventilated cavity between the façade and exterior walls. This system extends to the roof, which also incorporates photovoltaic panels for on-site energy generation.[6]​ The color degradation on the façade alludes to the movements of the celestial bodies. The façade solutions include the use of INCO's innovative dual-color technology,[4]​ which precisely controls the electrolyte formula and oxidation time.
