urban consortium
Introduction
The Jaén Area Metropolitan Transport Consortium is a public entity established in July 2007[2] to create and manage transport infrastructure and services in the metropolitan area of Jaén (Spain). The consortium is made up of the Junta de Andalucía, the Provincial Council of Jaén and the town councils of the consortium municipalities: Albanchez de Mágina, Andújar, Arjona "Arjona (Jaén)"), Arjonilla, Cárcheles, Cazalilla, Escañuela, Espeluy, Fuensanta de Martos, Fuerte del Rey, Jaén, Jamilena, La Guardia de Jaén, Lahiguera, Los Villares, Mancha Real, Martos, Mengíbar, Pegalajar, Torreblascopedro, Torredelcampo, Torredonjimeno, Torres "Torres (Jaén)"), Valdepeñas de Jaén, Villanueva de la Reina, Villardompardo and Villatorres.
The main objective of the consortium is to articulate economic, technical and administrative cooperation between the consortium administrations, thus allowing considerable economic savings to be applied in the use of intercity public buses.[3] Currently it is possible to transfer intercity buses with the urban buses of Jaén and Martos and in the future it is expected to be possible with the Jaén Tram, enabling considerable economic savings. The card can also be used in other metropolitan transport consortia.
Tariff system
Transportation card
The consortium's transport card consists of an electronic wallet on a contactless card, anonymous and transferable, which allows an unlimited number of trips for one or more people as long as they have sufficient balance. The rates applied when traveling with a transport card are cheaper than with a single ticket and allow savings of around 20%. In the case of transfers between urban and interurban buses, the savings range around 35% compared to the amount of the municipality's urban pass. The card can be purchased mainly at tobacconists in the consortium municipalities.
The card can also be used in the other metropolitan transport consortia of Andalusia, corresponding to the Malaga area, Seville area, Campo de Gibraltar, Bahía de Cádiz, Granada area, Almería area, Córdoba area and the Costa de Huelva.
Fare zones
The adopted zoning is made up of six crowns or concentric zones (A,B,C,D,E and F), which have the capital of Jaen as their epicenter. Therefore, zone A corresponds to the entire municipality of Jaén and its annexes, so as the length of the route increases, the cost of the trip increases by a percentage when passing from one area to another. The objective of this fare system is none other than to establish a homogeneous and integrated fare system for the entire area, simplifying the fare model, and lowering the cost of trips for users, especially those who make more frequent use of public transportation.
