Urban communication strategy
Introduction
The City Protocol is an open and global framework that aims to facilitate a structured analysis of the achievement and improvement of environmental sustainability, economic competitiveness, quality of life and city services. This new approach, currently under construction, is based on the idea of incorporating information and communication technologies together with natural sciences in the redesign of urban service management models.
The initiative brings together the efforts of companies, city councils, technology centers, universities and civil society to model the citizen services of the future. Following the example of the Internet Society, it seeks the definition of a governance of city models that allows the unification and standardization of ICT as a transversal element that generates synergies and cooperative knowledge between different areas that until now have worked at the service of cities independently, in order to obtain greater efficiency of public services and improve environmental sustainability, while offering more opportunities for people and companies..
The initiative created at the Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia and promoted by Barcelona City Council starting in 2011 with the involvement of urban planners, universities and companies from all over the world that share concerns and interests in the search for a new vision of the cities of the future. It held its first congress in the city of Barcelona in July 2012, with the participation of more than 200 professionals from 33 cities, 15 universities and more than 40 institutions and companies.
Goals
The City Protocol has five basic objectives:
Agenda
The City Protocol Society, formally established on October 31, 2013, leads the development process of the City Protocol through those responsible for the design and management of the regular activity of urban services. Only cities that are relevant to communities and help them in their interaction will be able to advance at a faster pace and with greater social impact. The attention of the City Protocol Society will focus on the interdependence between city systems, collaboration between city actors and the potential for collaboration between innovative cities. The contents of the City Protocol will be developed by the City Protocol Task Force, in which experts from around the world, on a voluntary basis, will work to define agreements in the form of recommendations or standards.
