Para 2018 se estimaba una tasa anual de deforestación de 166 mil 337 hectáreas, equivalente a la expansión territorial de la CDMX.[10].
“Back to school with a tree” program
The Secretariats of the Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) and of Public Education (SEP) signed a collaboration agreement on April 26, 2021 to promote environmental education actions at the levels of basic, higher secondary education "Educación secondary superior (Mexico)") and higher education, in order to promote a culture of sustainability.[11]
Given the socio-environmental problems generated by the Covid-19 pandemic in the world, it is urgent to generate values, attitudes and knowledge in girls, boys and young people to achieve a harmonious relationship with nature and a sustainable society. The overexploitation of natural assets has been a determining factor for this health crisis situation, since the prevailing economic model by preying on nature has altered and degraded ecosystems, impacting biological diversity and human health.[11].
In this framework, it is essential to promote and strengthen environmental education, raise awareness and raise awareness about how important it is to care for Mother Earth, value and protect our biocultural heritage and, consequently, establish new ways of life and coexistence between people and the environment.[11].
For the development of the program, the particularities of the territories where the schools are located will be considered at all times: urban, peri-urban and rural areas; level of backwardness and social marginalization; degree of environmental and climatic vulnerability, etc.[11].
It is important to highlight that the program not only aims to plant trees, an important task in itself, but also:.
Thus, the Back to School with Tree program seeks to contribute to the formation of responsible citizens committed to the care of Mother Earth, the defense of territories and the transition to sustainable lifestyles.[11].
Campaign “Join the ERA of reforestation”
In order to counteract the forest destruction of thousands of hectares that serve as habitat for countless species of flora and fauna and mitigate the effects of global warming, they intensify the “Join the ERA of reforestation” campaign in schools in Soconusco, Chiapas. [12].
The Alberto C. Culebro High School and CETIS 85 of the Aquiles Serdán Ejido of the municipality of Huixtla were the places where the planting of trees was carried out, actions were chaired by the Huixtleco, Mario Antonio Gonzales Puón, who was accompanied by the local deputy Fredy Escobar Díaz.[12].
The specialist in the subject, Jessica Rodríguez, emphasized to the high school students the important need for reforestation of the territory in both rural and urban areas to stop the loss of ecosystems and stop the great deterioration that not only our state and country, but the entire world is experiencing.[12].
For his part, Mario González Puón thanked the directors, administrators and teachers at each of the events, as well as the students of the Alberto C. Culebro High School and CETIS 85 for their participation in this great project of benefit to Chiapas and in which there is an interest and commitment to the reforestation project of the governor-elect, Dr. Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar.[12].
"Join the reforestation is a broad aggressive plan to plant trees in Chiapas, which in a first stage works in 30 municipalities of the state with the goal of reforesting 150 thousand hectares to mitigate the damage that has occurred and which according to data became critical starting in 1990 in this state of Chiapas that has been characterized at the national level for being the great lung of Mexico" he added, in the same way he mentioned that it is time for young people to regain the ability to reverse the damage, realize that times have changed, the rains "Precipitation (meteorology)") are not like before and this has an impact on the production of the fields, the lack of water, and this is reversed with reforestation as a life plan for Chiapas.[12].
