Es militante de Renovación Nacional (RN), partido en el que ha detentado varios cargos, tales como el de miembro electo de su Comisión Política, presidente y vicepresidente de Santiago y consejero general del partido.
Se inició en política como concejal electo por Santiago "Santiago (comuna)") en las elecciones municipales de 2004, acompañando al alcalde Raúl Alcaíno (2004-2008) en el Concejo Municipal. En ese periodo, se desempeñó como presidente de la Comisión de Normativa. En las elecciones municipales de 2008 Alessandri no se repostuló para un nuevo periodo —optó por cursar un magíster de 2 años— y apoyó la candidatura a concejal de su hermano Jorge Alessandri Vergara, quien fue primera mayoría, y la candidatura a alcalde de Pablo Zalaquett Said, quien triunfó frente al exalcalde (1990-2000) Jaime Ravinet.
Durante el primer gobierno de Sebastián Piñera fue encargado ciudadano de la Presidencia, desempeñándose como Director de Gestión Ciudadana formando parte del Gabinete presidencial entre 2011 y marzo de 2014.[1].
En las elecciones municipales de 2012 se presentó por segunda vez a una elección como concejal en Santiago, resultando electo nuevamente. Esta vez la alcaldía quedó en manos de la coalición de centroizquierda Nueva Mayoría "Nueva Mayoría (Chile)"), con la elección de Carolina Tohá.
El 20 de julio de 2016 tras ganarle al candidato UDI Joaquín Lavín una encuesta que acordó el sector para definir al candidato, fue nominado por Chile Vamos como el candidato a alcalde de Santiago en las elecciones municipales de ese año.[3] En septiembre del mismo año recibe el apoyo del partido de centro derecha Amplitud "Amplitud (partido político)"). En los comicios del 23 de octubre de ese año fue elegido alcalde de Santiago, derrotando a Tohá holgadamente.[4].
En 2020, fue de los primeros ediles a nivel nacional en manifestarse a favor del "Apruebo" en el plebiscito de entrada que se desarrolló en octubre del mismo año[5] incluso tildó de momificados a los que no quieren realizar los cambios.[6] Tras el triunfo del Apruebo; insto a su sector a unirse y llevar una lista única de constituyentes y que fuera una comisión mixta compuesta por parlamentarios y consejeros electos.[7]Tras el resultado calamitoso de la convención constitucional y el borrador de carta magna; trabajó y coordinó equipos por el Rechazo en el plebiscito de septiembre, opción que ganó holgadamente.
Alessandri fue superado por la izquierda en las elecciones municipales de 2021, perdiendo la reelección en la alcaldía de Santiago muy estrechamente contra Irací Hassler, primera militante del Partido Comunista en la historia en asumir dicho cargo siendo también la que en este siglo menos ha durado en el cargo. Fue derrotada en su intención de reelección por el correligionario de Alessandri;Mario Desbordes.
En abril de 2024 se decidió a competir en las elecciones primarias de Chilevamos en la comuna de Lo Barnechea de la Región Metropolitana de Santiago, donde reside y donde estudió. Esto tras el anuncio del alcalde Cristóbal Lira de no ir a reelección. Compitió con el exConcejal y exCore de la UDI Carlos Ward Edwards, resultando Alessandri vencedor el día 9 de junio de 2024, pasando en consecuencia directamente a la papeleta del 26 y 27 de octubre del mismo año. Ganó holgadamente la elección municipal de ese año; dejando en el camino al candidato del Partido Republicano y a la candidata del Partido Social Cristiano además de a los dos postulantes representantes de las Izquierdas.

The launch of a Mobility Plan (2019-2029) stands out, the creation of Paseo Bandera, an artery that runs through the heart of the center, transformed it into a Pedestrian Promenade. It doubled the existing network of cycle paths and generated cycle paths in the southern sector of Santiago. As President of the Municipal Theater of Santiago; Opera Nacional de Chile raises private funds to clean it up financially and makes a change in administration; appointing Carmen Gloria Larenas as general director to replace Frédéric Chambert") and at the same level appointing a general manager, being the first time that both functions have been divided.
In 2020, it focused on rebuilding the damaged areas after the social outbreak and in parallel organized the Municipality to assist and support the measures of the Health Authority as a result of the Pandemic. Along with it; In the second half of 2020, it delivered to the community the new Santiago Social Building in the historic center to serve the most vulnerable neighbors, the new Santiago Seguro Building in the Yungay neighborhood focused on security, a new Popular Pharmacy in Matta Sur, a new CESFAM in the southern sector of Santiago and the opening of another CESFAM in Yungay in 2021. During the period, it opened 3 new Kindergartens and the Children's House on Hurtado Rodríguez Street. Adding to the dental center delivered in 2017, a Recycling center in Parque Los Reyes and the purchase of the former Hermanita de los Pobres nursing home, both in 2018. Along with that, it is putting out to tender the replacement of the entire commune to LED lighting, a process that will materialize between 2020-2021.
Mayor of Lo Barnechea
In June 2024, he participated as a pre-candidate for mayor of the commune of Lo Barnechea with the support of Renovación Nacional, in the primary elections of Chile Vamos, obtaining victory with 57.02% of the votes.[10] Winning by a wide margin over UDI candidate Carlos Ward. In October of that year, in the municipal elections, he was elected mayor of Lo Barnechea with 55.72% of the votes[11], leaving behind the Republican candidate and the Social Christian party candidate, as well as the two candidates from the Left. Consequently becoming the mayor of Lo Barnechea.
His first time as mayor has focused on modernizing the security elements of the commune and he has fought so that security officials can carry non-lethal weapons; Along with this, it will also transform Lo Barnechea into an intelligent commune. In environmental matters, it has prioritized the recycling of electronic devices, the change to species with low water consumption and the installation of solar panels. He has insisted that the Central Government speed up the issue of social housing where the municipality collaborates with an important part of the resources, having at least 4 projects planned, but which require Government support. In mobility, he leads a table together with Metro and neighboring municipalities for the arrival of the underground train to the commune; A possibility that is feasible but requires an engineering project and the Government's support. It acquired electric buses that will make trips to the Metro.
He launched the remodeling project of Plaza San Enrique, which includes the opening of the Casona; underground parking lots; pedestrianization of the environment, enhancement of the Bridge that crosses over the Mapocho and a complete remodeling of the Plaza. Along with that, he launched the new Cesfam project.
