Tsing Ma Bridge
Introduction
The Tsing Ma Bridge (traditional Chinese, simplified Chinese, pinyin, Qīngmǎ Dàqiáo) is a suspension bridge located in Hong Kong, China. It is the seventh longest suspension bridge in the world.
The name comes from Tsing Yi and Ma Wan, two of the islands of Hong Kong. The bridge has two platforms, one for road traffic and the other for railways, making it the longest of its type in the world. On the upper platform there are 6 lanes for cars and on the lower one two railway tracks, as well as two more lanes for vehicles that are used when the wind is strong. The length of the main span is 1,377 m, and the pillars have a height of 206 m. It is the bridge with the largest span in the world intended for trains. The width of the bridge is 41 meters and it was inaugurated on April 27, 1997.
The Tsing Ma Bridge links the islands of Tsing Yi to the north and Ma Wan to the west across the Ma Wan Channel. The bridge is part of the Lantau Link, which connects Hong Kong to Chek Lap Kok, where Hong Kong International Airport is located. The gauge for maritime traffic is 62 meters.
