Tool holder adapters
Introduction
A tool holder is a holding device for the cutting tool of a machine tool. There are many different cutting tools in terms of shape and size. The type of tool holder must be chosen depending on the machine and the tool to be used. In modern computer numerical control (CNC) machines, choosing a suitable tool holder is important to ensure accurate machining with productivity.
Necessary Features
The main qualities necessary in a tool holder are:.
Parts of a Tool Holder:
Conical interface (also called clamping cone): This is the system that uses to clamp to the machine spindle, the 3 most common standards are HSK, BT AND CAT. , although there are variations such as the system patented by Big Kaiser, the Big Plus system,[1] which includes many cones but with double contact technology to the machine. The cones that have a conical ratio of 7:24 (SK, CAT, BT) follow the standard of ISO 7388-1.[2] The HSK cone (Hohlschaftkegel, hollow cone) follows the ISO 12164-1 standard [3].
Tool holder body: This section includes clamping slots, Index Notcch, Tool holder collar (keyway), Coding hole (slot for automatic systems type ATC), connecting thread, cooling holes, etc., the geometries are regulated by ISO 7388-1,[2] the retention bolts (pull-studs) are regulated by ISO 7388-3[4] and the slots such as the change grip Fast ATC are measured by ISO 9270-1[5]. These technologies depend on the manufacturer and model, these elements are key in vibration absorption and dynamic balance.
Tool holding mechanism: This is the system used to hold the cutting tool, they can use ER nozzles that are usually governed by DIN6499 and ISO15488[6] standards. There are also thermal systems that heat to contract and cool to hold the drill bits, milling cutters or taps, or hydraulic systems controlled by a clamping screw.

High-productivity lathes use indexable carbide insert tool holders that are screwed to the tool holder. The most traditional lathes use integral tools with hard metal inserts welded on.
