Technology park
Introduction
Technology parks are models to capitalize on knowledge in regional and national development; they are effective instruments in the transfer of technology, creation and attraction of companies with high added value. In order to house small and medium-sized businesses, develop technologies and promote innovation, the State Secretariats of Economy in coordination with private initiative organizations and civil associations created the Technology Parks program.
The location of these parks is usually on industrial land, which the town councils put at the service of high-tech or medium-tech companies.
The positive data on employment growth stands out, which with a total number of 145,155 workers has increased by 7%, and investment in R&D, which increases by 26%, reaching 1,226 million euros.
The number of companies and employment in R&D has also grown and in 2010, 5,539 companies were registered in the parks and a total of 25,443 people dedicated to R&D tasks, which represents an increase of 8% and 10% respectively.
The turnover of all the parks during 2010 has registered a slight decrease of 0.3%, a global figure of 21,475 million euros.
