sharepoint overview
Collectively, the term "SharePoint" can refer to a series of products ranging from the base platform to various services. The platform is Windows SharePoint Services (WSS), which is included with Windows Server and is available as a free web download for Windows Server license holders. Consequently, services such as Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) provide additional functionality and features that are licensed.
The version released in mid-2009 replaces Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) with the name Sharepoint Foundation. For its part, the Server version simply changes its name MOSS to SharePoint Server 2010.
