Introduction
Cargo is the set of goods that are transported by any vehicle or transport tool.[1].
The key factors that influence the price of cargo transportation are multiple: among others are weight, volume, distance, speed, nature (crash load or unit load; detachable; explosive; radioactive), particular precautions (temperature, humidity, fragility) or danger.
Cargo in maritime transport can be classified in many ways; Taking into account packaging and handling, bulk merchandise is distinguished: bulks can be solid, among which major bulks (cereals, iron ore, phosphorus) and minor bulks (sugar, fertilizers, forestry products, non-ferrous minerals, sulfides...) are distinguished; liquids (crude oil and its derivatives, chemicals, oils, alcoholic beverages...); and, finally, gaseous (petroleum gas and natural gas). They are deposited in the holds or tanks of ships, which are usually compartmentalized by bulkheads.
On the other hand is general cargo: it is all merchandise not included in the concept of bulk, from raw materials to consumer products (capital goods, manufactured products, food products, refrigerated cargo...). It can be: palletized general cargo (pallets are placed in the holds of general cargo ships); general containerized cargo (containers are loaded on the deck or in the hold of the ship); and, finally, general wheeled cargo (vehicles on wheels that access the holds of horizontal cargo (ro-ro) vessels adapted for this type of cargo).
In air transport it is important to find a balance between the payload and the range of the aircraft. In this context of air transport, people who are not part of the crew are considered paid cargo. The more cargo loaded into a plane, the less fuel it can carry and, in addition, the plane will weigh more, and therefore much less distance can be traveled. Depending on the type of payload, aircraft are usually classified into commercial aircraft and cargo aircraft.
