Introduction
The Guavio Reservoir is a reservoir in Colombia created by the Alberto-Lleras Dam that feeds the Guavio Hydroelectric Power Plant. The dam is located in the municipalities of Gachetá, Gachalá, Gama and Ubalá, in the department of Cundinamarca, and dams the waters of the Guavio"), Batatas and Chivor rivers.
Characteristics
The main characteristics of the dam[2] are the following:
• - "Dam (hydraulic)") rockfill dam 243 m high to form a useful reservoir of 950 million m³. The average river flow at the dam site is 62 m³/s.
• - Diversion tunnel 1160 m long.
• - Overflow"): two 600 m long tunnels with an entrance spillway controlled by gates.
• - Diversion tunnel to the Batatas river reservoir, 2,330 m long and Chivor, 2,190 m long.
• - Upper loading tunnel 13,315 m long.
• - at the time of its construction, it was the third tallest dam in the world (in 2012, the 12th in the world).
• - When the reservoir filled, the locals began to become interested in fishing and water sports.
• - It has a bottom discharge to drain the sediment, which was seriously damaged on the day of the first overflow due to the exaggeration of the spectator politicians, who asked for more water.
