Introduction
The Santiago Military Hospital (HMS), recognized as the main Clinical Center of the Chilean Army, is located in the commune of La Reina, in the eastern sector of the city of Santiago, Chile.
History
Its origins date back to 1914, when the Chilean Army identified the need to have a specialized place to care for the health of its officials.
A "Pro Hospital Committee" was in charge of collecting the necessary funds for its construction in Santiago. The construction began in 1928 and was inaugurated in 1932, in the commune of Providencia "Providencia (Chile)").
The hospital was named in honor of its promoter, General Luis Felipe Brieba Aran" (1870-1945). In its beginnings, it only had the services of Urology, Clinical Laboratory and Radiodiagnosis.
In 1974, the Medical Library of the Military Hospital of Santiago was created, dependent on the Department of Teaching and Academic Extension.
In 1996, the Santiago Military Hospital expanded its care not only to the beneficiaries of the Army Health System, but also to the community in general through agreements with private and public health systems. Given the above, private users, affiliated with ISAPRES, FONASA "National Health Fund (Chile)") and those with direct agreements with various companies, attend this health center.
As part of an Army health modernization project, in 1998 studies began for the construction of a new hospital. Work began in 2008 and the new Military Hospital was inaugurated on April 27, 2009 in its current location in La Reina. The old facilities in Providencia became the current Metropolitan Hospital, Providencia headquarters.
Since those years, the hospital has further reinforced its commitment to the development of medical knowledge, promoting the training and improvement of professionals and technicians through alliances with leading national universities.
The HMS is at the forefront of healthcare in Chile, integrating innovative technologies that improve the health and well-being of the community. With a sustainable and innovative approach, it has become a benchmark in the country's health system.
It has the professionals, the infrastructure and technology necessary to provide the best care to its patients, with the quality and warmth that characterizes them.
