Reinforced earth wall
Introduction
The San Martín Avenue Elevator in Caracas is a road infrastructure work built in 2014, by the National Executive "National Executive Branch (Venezuela)") through the Ministry of Popular Power for Land Transportation and Public Works, as part of the Caracas Road Improvement Plan that was executed between 2013 and 2015[1].
This reinforced concrete elevated was built at a point of permanent road congestion in this important artery in the west of the Venezuelan capital. It is located at the intersection of San Martín Avenue "Avenida San Martín (Caracas)") with José Ángel Lamas Avenue and Sur Street that connects to the San Juan feeder of the Francisco Fajardo Highway heading west.
With an investment of BsF. 75 million, this two-channel elevated made it possible to lighten traffic in the sector and reduce circulation times.
Background
San Martín Avenue "Avenida San Martín (Caracas)") is one of the main land communication routes of the capital of the Venezuelan country that connects the west and the center of the city. When line 2 of the Caracas Metro was built, along the entire length of this avenue, it was assumed that it would generate a significant improvement in the movement of citizens; however, with the passage of time and the increase in the number of vehicles, traffic congestion once again became a problem.
Among the points of greatest congestion on the avenue is the intersection at the corner of Los Palos Grandes, where San Martín Avenue meets José Ángel Lamas Avenue, as well as the southern streets of the San Juan feeder of the Francisco Fajardo highway and the northern street of the El Guarataro neighborhood. Likewise, rapid circulation was necessary because the Concepción Palacios Maternity Hospital is located nearby, the main hospital center for pregnant women in the Venezuelan capital.
Between 1985 and 1987 there was an elevated specifically on the corner of Capuchinos, erected for the construction of the homonymous Metro station "Capuchinos (Caracas metro)").
Project and construction
The National Executive "National Executive Branch (Venezuela)") in 2013 approved the development of a construction plan for road improvements for Caracas and other cities in the country, with the objective of reducing vehicle congestion.
