Regulation of Thermal Installations (RITE)
Introduction
The Regulation of Thermal Installations in Buildings (RITE) is the Spanish regulation that regulates matters relating to the design, installation and maintenance of air conditioning (ventilation, heating and cooling) and domestic hot water production facilities.
Its objective is to establish the energy efficiency and safety requirements that thermal installations in buildings intended to meet the demand for well-being and hygiene of people must meet, during their design and dimensioning, execution, maintenance and use, as well as to determine the procedures that allow their compliance to be accredited.
Regulations
The Regulation on Thermal Installations in Buildings RD 1751/1998 was repealed, with effect from February 29, 2008, by RD 1027/2007.
Directive 2002/91/EC on the energy efficiency of buildings was partially transposed by Royal Decree 47/2007, of January 19 (which approves the basic procedure for the certification of energy efficiency of newly built buildings) and by RD 1027/2007, of July 20, Regulation of Thermal Installations in Buildings (RITE).
This European regulation was succeeded by Directive 2010/31/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council, of May 19, 2010, relating to the energy efficiency of buildings, which is partially transposed by Royal Decree 238/2013, of April 5, which modifies certain articles and technical instructions of the Regulation on Thermal Installations in Buildings, approved by Royal Decree 1027/2007, of July 20.
Various works expose the advantages of adapting buildings to the RITE regulations: a study indicates that buildings that comply with the Regulation of Thermal Installations in Buildings in terms of air filtration have an indoor air quality between 24% and 67% better than those that do not comply[1] and research carried out in California by William Fisk, from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, defends the benefits in productivity.[2][3].
Every RITE installation or maintenance company must have personnel in possession of the RITE card issued by the corresponding autonomous community[4].
