Quality of Life Criteria
Introduction
The Better Life Index (in English, Better Life Index, or BLI) is an economic-social index created by the OECD in 2011. The Better Life Index allows people to compare countries according to their own preferences through 11 criteria considered essential for the well-being of the population.[1].
The Better Life Index is part of the OECD program "The Better Life Initiative", launched in May 2011. This initiative is supported by the report of the Stiglitz-Sen-Fitoussi Commission on the measurement of economic performance and social progress.
The Index includes the 34 member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) – which brings together most of the world's developed economies and several emerging economies – and some more.[2].
Criteria
The Better Life Index analyzes the following 11 criteria or dimensions of well-being:.
However, some other factors that are also usually considered important are not included, such as equality, birth rate, or religion. Those responsible for the index pointed out the possibility of including them in the future.[2].
