Basic concept of pile elevators
Pile elevators are mechanical devices designed to transport bulk materials vertically or at an inclination, facilitating their accumulation in piles or elevated tanks. They are widely used in sectors such as construction, mining, agriculture and industries that require the efficient handling of loose materials.
This equipment allows the continuous and automatic lifting of materials using a belt or belt equipped with containers or buckets, which collect the material at the bottom and deposit it at the top, forming piles or feeding other processes.

The operation of a pile elevator is based on a continuous transportation system composed of a belt or chain that has attached containers called buckets. These buckets collect the material at the lower end, transport it vertically and discharge it at the upper end using gravity.
The main components include the structural frame, the carrier belt or chain, buckets, drive and return pulleys or rollers, a motor that drives the system, and tension devices to keep the belt or chain in proper tension.
The design allows for a constant and controlled flow of material, facilitating the formation of uniform stacks and optimizing storage space, in addition to minimizing manual handling and increasing handling safety.
Types of elevators according to the transport system
Pile elevators can be mainly classified into bucket elevators and belt elevators. Bucket elevators use rigid containers attached to a chain or belt to transport loose materials vertically. They are ideal for granular materials, powders and granules.
On the other hand, belt elevators use a continuous belt that can transport materials in a more homogeneous state or in bags, although they are usually more common in horizontal or inclined transport. In the pile context, bucket elevators are preferred due to their capacity for vertical lifting and precise discharge.
