Perimeter railings
Introduction
The Catalan-style roof[1] [2] Catalan-style roof[3] or Catalan-style ventilated roof,[4] is a specific type of walkable flat roof or integrated roof that is distinguished by its particular construction system, traditionally used in the architecture of Catalonia and other areas of influence. Unlike sloping roofs with visible tiles, the Catalan roof offers a more modern and clean exterior appearance, aesthetically integrating with the façade of the building. Due to its numerous aesthetic and architectural advantages and its versatility, the Catalan roof has been widely adopted in high-end residential constructions.[5].
Its main feature, which differentiates it from other flat roofs, is the use of rabbit partitions (or "air chamber partition") on the structural slab, which create an essential air chamber for thermal insulation and ventilation before the installation of the final tile or stoneware finish.
Description
The pavement is made of Catalan tiles. To facilitate ventilation, a brick partition is built, supported on the ends of the ceramic brick slab. A top slab of artificial stone is placed on the parapet. On this flat roof, a layer of fiberglass is currently placed between the brick partitions, although this material did not exist on the traditional Catalan roof. The slope is formed by a brick partition. Two large ceramic tiles rest on this; The first brick, built with cement mortar, separates the brick parapet. This parapet is made of 11.5cm thick double hollow bricks. To facilitate the expansion of the lower slab, a board is placed between it and the partition. A cement mortar board, in the shape of a slab, is placed on the double slab of ceramic brick, on which the pavement and its skirting are placed.[3].
Construction elements
A Catalan roof shares many elements with other flat roofs, but integrates specific components that define its particularity:
