Vectorworks Marionette
Marionette is an open source graphical scripting tool (or visual programming environment) for the architecture, engineering, construction, landscape, and entertainment design industries that is integrated into the Mac and Windows versions of Vectorworks software. The tool was first made available in the Vectorworks 2016 product line. Marionette allows designers to create custom application algorithms that create interactive parametric objects and streamline complex workflows, as well as create automated 2D, 3D modeling, and BIM workflows within Vectorworks software.
Built in the Python programming language, everything in Marionette consists of nodes that are linked together in a flowchart arrangement. Each node contains a Python script with predefined inputs and outputs that can be accessed and modified with a built-in editor. Nodes are placed directly into the Vectorworks document and then connected to create complex algorithms. Since Marionette is fully integrated into Vectorworks software, it can also be used to create completely self-contained parametric objects that can be inserted into new and existing designs.
Some aspects that deserve to be mentioned are also:
- Marionette is the first tool of its kind within (and fully integrated into) a BIM application
- Being integrated into the BIM process, Marionette goes beyond simply optimizing flows and allowing parametric objects to be made, since it has direct communication to the Vectorworks organization structures: layers, floors, classes, information, IFC classification, etc.
- It is the first module of its kind compatible with Mac and PC systems.
Catia
The CATIA (Computer Aided three-dimensional Interactive Application) system was used by architect Frank Gehry to design some of his award-winning curvilinear buildings, such as the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. Gehry Technologies, the technology division of your company, has created its own parametric design software based on its experience with CATIA, which is called Digital Project..
Autodesk 3DS Max
3ds Max®") is a sophisticated parametric 3D modeling software that provides modeling, animation, simulation and complete rendering solution for games, movies and motion graphics artists. 3ds Max offers efficient new tools, accelerated performance and optimized workflows to help increase overall productivity for working with complex, high-resolution assets. 3ds Max uses the concept of modifiers and wire parameters to control its geometry and gives the user the ability to write its functionality using MAXScript such as Python programming languages.
grasshopper 3d
Grasshopper 3d") is a plugin for Rhinoceros 3D that provides users with a visual programming language interface for creating and editing geometry.
Components or nodes are dragged onto a canvas in order to build a grasshopper definition. Grasshopper is based on diagrams that map the flow of parameter relationships, through user-defined functions (nodes), concluding in the generation of geometry. When the user modifies parameters or the geometry causes the changes to propagate through all functions and the geometry to be redrawn.[5].
Autodesk Revit
Autodesk Revit is a BIM (Building Information Modeling) type software used by architects and other construction professionals. Revit allows you to create three-dimensional parametric models from geometric and non-geometric information (about design and construction). Every change made to a Revit element is automatically propagated through the model to keep all components, views, and annotations consistent. This facilitates collaboration between design teams and ensures that all generated information (floor areas, spreadsheets, etc.) is dynamically updated when changes are made to the model.
Autodesk Dynamo
Dynamo is an open source programming environment for graphic design. Dynamo extends information modeling with the data environment and logic of a graphical algorithm editor.
