Palletized Materials
Introduction
palletizing or palletization is the action and effect of arranging merchandise on a pallet for storage and transportation. Loads are palletized to achieve uniformity and ease of handling; This saves space and makes loading, unloading and handling time more profitable.
Almost any type of merchandise can be palletized; Boxes and other grouped packaging are usually placed on top of the pallets so that the space on the pallet is used and the load remains stable. Palletizing is essential in automated warehouses, capable of handling all types of packaging (drums, barrels, "Sack (container)" bags...) while they are palletized.
Loading a pallet can be done by hand, although it is not the most common system. In many countries the maximum weight[1] of a package that can be handled by hand is 25 kg and is increasingly limited to 15 kg to adapt to female limitations and prevent work stops due to back pain and other ailments, etc. The most common thing is to manipulate loads mechanically.
Mechanical pallet handling
To replace the pallet, there are also sliding sheets (also known as "slip sheets"), which can be made of cardboard or plastic. In order to place the pallets on top of each other using these sheets, a special device called "push and pull" must be installed on the forklifts.
Current 25 kg bag palletizers can palletize from 600 bags per hour (with robot or mechanical arm) to 4,500 bags per hour (generally slightly more complex machines used in the cement industry).
Some considerations
Some considerations must be taken into account when determining the height and weight of the palletized load:
Standard pallet measurements in Spain and Europe
There are five "standard" pallet sizes:
They all have the same base size, 1 meter wide x 1.2 meter deep, and the merchandise must never exceed this surface. There is also the one known as the standard "Europallet", which is 1 meter wide and 0.8 meters deep.
The type of pallet with name, size, weight and height is detailed in a list below:
