Pallet boxes
Definition
Concept and basic function of pallet boxes
Pallet boxes are rigid containers designed to be transported and stored on pallets, facilitating the efficient handling of goods in logistics chains and industrial processes. Its structure allows it to contain products of different sizes and weights, ensuring their integrity during transportation and storage.
These containers combine the function of a box and pallet in a single system, reducing the need for multiple packaging and optimizing space in warehouses and transport vehicles. They are widely used in sectors such as food, automotive, logistics and retail.
Characteristics and Types of Pallet Boxes
Commonly used materials
Pallet boxes can be made of various materials, mainly plastic, wood and metal, each with specific advantages depending on the application. Plastic, especially high-density polyethylene, is valued for its moisture resistance, ease of cleaning, and impact durability.
Wooden pallet boxes are traditional, offer good structural resistance and are more economical, although they require maintenance to avoid damage from moisture or insects. For their part, metal boxes, commonly made of steel or aluminum, are used in applications that demand high mechanical strength and durability, although they are heavier and more expensive.
In addition, there are mixed pallet boxes that combine materials to optimize weight, resistance and cost, adapting to specific transportation and storage needs.
Standard designs and dimensions
Pallet boxes are designed to fit the dimensions of standard pallets, such as the 1200 x 800 mm European pallet (EUR) or the 1200 x 1000 mm industrial pallet. This allows universal compatibility in logistics systems and facilitates handling with equipment such as forklifts.
In terms of design, they can be stackable, foldable or removable, allowing significant space savings when not in use. Stackable boxes have reinforced edges to support the weight of multiple units, while foldable boxes make it easy to return and store in the supply line.
