Paint Booths
Introduction
A paint booth is, essentially, a conditioned room that fulfills three main functions:
The European directives "Directive (European Union Law)") and the limit values in other geographical areas such as the USA[2] and Australia[3] or Japan[4] have made it necessary to eliminate emissions of these compounds in the processes of preparation, painting and finishing of surfaces, mainly metallic and plastic, as established, for example, in the European Directives.
The basic criteria for a paint booth are established in technical regulations. In the European Union, for example, the EN 13335 standard is followed.[5] These criteria refer to ventilation levels, the number of renewals and filtration quality criteria.
The temperature, humidity and air velocity criteria are also determined by the different types of paint, application matrix and destination of the treated piece and depend, to a large extent, on the conditions recommended by the paint manufacturers on the market. Conventionally, temperature conditions of between 22 °C and 26 °C and humidity between 40% and 60%[6] relative humidity are suitable for most applications and products, although there may be particular restrictions.
