Nobis Consortium
Introduction
Nobis is a company and business group from Ecuador founded in 1997 by businesswoman Isabel Noboa. It covers agricultural, real estate, industrial, commercial and tourism businesses. This holding company is one of the most important in Ecuador.[1].
History
In 1997, the Noboa Corporation of Luis Noboa Naranjo was partitioned, after his death in 1994. The companies and investments of said corporation that belonged to Isabel Noboa, as Luis Noboa's heir, will be used by her to start the Nobis Consortium.[2].
Among the assets assigned by judicial agreement to Isabel Noboa were the national representative company of Coca-Cola, the Mall del Sol shopping center, the Ingenio Valdez, among other companies and investments. For the purpose of directing these companies, Noboa creates the Nobis Consortium and prepares a team specialized in business administration. In 1997 Nobis founded its real estate subsidiary Pronobis"), which in the future will be its most recognized company.
The beginnings of the consortium were marked by the financial crisis in Ecuador in 1999. Nobis had million-dollar debts with the banks and its investors, so the holding company used as a capitalization method the exchange of its debts with equity securities of its real estate investments. Thus, the management of Nobis was in charge of bringing several companies afloat.[1][3].
In 2005 Nobis rescued the historic food company La Universal, which had declared bankruptcy in 2001, which reopened its doors in 2006. During the 2000s, Nobis emerged on the business scene in Ecuador, especially in the Guayaquil real estate market through the company Pronobis, building around 35 real estate projects totaling more than 500 million dollars in investment.[1][3] At the same time, the Valdez Sugar Mill remains one of the sugar companies with the highest production in Ecuador and becomes the most technologically advanced in that country.[4].
As part of its social responsibility policies, Nobis has promoted the Nobis Foundation") since 2001.
