NCh (Chilean Standards)
Introduction
The National Institute for Standardization (INN) is a non-profit private law foundation, created by CORFO. Its role is to contribute to the productive development of the country, promoting the development and use of Chilean standards, coordinating the National Metrology Network and accrediting conformity assessment bodies.
The INN is the recognized body for standardization in the country, and is also a founder and member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
The INN is the legal successor of the National Institute of Technological Research"), Indictecnor, whose genesis dates back to 1944. Since 1973, when the Institute changed its legal personality and was renamed INN, it has worked on the development and dissemination of Chilean standards (NCh).
Activities
The National Institute of Standardization, INN, is structured into seven organizational units: Executive Management, Standards, Accreditation, Metrology, Dissemination and Training, Development, and Administration and Finance.
Through the National Institute of Standardization, Chile has international recognition in matters of standardization, accreditation and metrology.
Standardization
The INN is a member of the International Organization for Standardization, ISO,[2] the main international standardizing body, of which it has been a founder since 1947. Since 1969 it has been a founder and part of the Pan American Commission for Technical Standards, COPANT.[3] Both institutions are concerned with promoting, encouraging and developing standards studies at the international level.
Accreditation
The INN is a member of the Inter-American Accreditation Cooperation, IAAC, since its foundation in 1996; participates in the International Accreditation Forum, IAF;[4] and in the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation, ILAC. These organizations establish and disseminate common conformity assessment criteria and promote the creation of recognition agreements between the world's national accreditation bodies.
Metrology
The INN is recognized as the National Metrological Institute (NMI) before the International Bureau of Weights and Measures, BIPM.[5] It is also a signatory before the Inter-American Metrology System, SIM. The INN manages the National Metrology Network, RNM.
The RNM is a body recognized by the State of Chile to articulate and manage the metrological assurance system, which guarantees the measurements made in Chile so that they are comparable, traceable and accepted in other countries.
