Mixed reality (MR), also sometimes called hybrid reality, is the result of combining virtual reality and augmented reality..
Therefore, in order to understand what mixed reality is, it is first necessary to understand what each of these concepts is:
- Virtual reality is the technology that allows the user to experience scenarios that are not the user's physical reality at that same moment as if they were (whether invented scenarios that do not exist or scenarios reproduced from the real world).
It is important to highlight that virtual reality can be of 2 types: semi-immersive (or non-immersive) based on the visualization of virtual scenarios through a screen, giving the user the sensation of looking at that scenario from a "window", and immersive which is based on the simulation of 2D or 3D scenarios in which the user experiences them with a sense of presence and as if they were really "inside", even interacting with the elements that make up the scenario.
Thus, with respect to virtual reality, we must highlight the concept immersive virtual reality that allows the user to immerse themselves in first person in virtual scenarios and with a 360º perspective, thanks to the use of a virtual reality viewer. The user stops seeing the real environment in which they are located and begins to view the virtual world, interact with it and move in it. They are even working on the development of virtual reality gloves that allow objects in the virtual world to be manipulated (although in reality you would be touching the void).
