Introduction
Jordi Borja Sebastià (Barcelona, June 18, 1941) is a Spanish urban geographer and politician. He has a degree in Sociology and Political Science, a diploma in Geography and a Master's degree in Urban Planning. He is a professor at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) where he is responsible for the City Management and Urban Planning Area of the UOC and since December 22, 2012 President of the Observatori DESC") -Economic, social and cultural rights- located in Barcelona.[1].
Biographical data
A member of the Unified Socialist Party of Catalonia (PSUC) since 1962, he was in exile from 1961 to 1968. From 1968 to 1972 he was a professor of urban sociology at the University of Barcelona and, from 1972 to 1984, of urban geography and territorial institutions at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Between 1969 and 1970 he was a member of the Catalan Geography Society[2].
He was a member of the Central Committee of the PSUC and the Communist Party of Spain (PCE) and responsible for municipal politics and popular movements of the PSUC from 1974 to 1981. He was elected deputy in the elections to the Parliament of Catalonia in 1980 for the PSUC, deputy mayor in Barcelona City Council, also for the PSUC from 1983 to 1995 and executive vice president of the Barcelona Metropolitan Area from 1987 to 1991.
He is the director of the consulting company Jordi Borja Urban Technology Consulting S.L., professor at the Open University of Catalonia and director of the Master in Urban Management at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.[3] He has been a professor at the universities of Paris, Rome, New York, Mexico and Buenos Aires and co-director of the Strategic Plans Advisory of Rio de Janeiro, Bogotá and Medellín. He has collaborated in numerous publications such as L'Avenç, L'Espill "L'Espill (magazine)"), Meanwhile and El País, among others.
Since December 22, 2012, Jordi Borja is President of the Barcelona DESC Observatory on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.[1].
