Metropolitan data network
Introduction
A Metro Ethernet Network is a technological architecture intended to provide data connectivity services in a layer 2 Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) in the OSI model, through Ethernet interfaces (UNIs). These so-called "multiservice" networks support a wide range of services and applications, and have mechanisms that include support for "RTP" (real time) traffic, for applications such as IP Telephony and IP Video, even though this type of traffic is especially sensitive to delay and jitter (Jitter).
Metro Ethernet networks can use copper lines (MAN LOOP), which guarantees the possibility of deployment at any point in the urban area, supporting 100% of the services demanded by Smart City projects.
Metro Ethernet networks usually use mainly guided transmission media, such as copper (MAN LOOP) and fiber optics, there are also licensed radio solutions, the rates provided are 10 Mbit/s, 20 Mbit/s, 34 Mbit/s, 100 Mbit/s, 1 Gbit/s and 10 Gbit/s.
The multiple copper pair aggregation technology (MAN LOOP) allows the delivery of between 10 Mbit/s, 20 Mbit/s, 34 Mbit/s and 100 Mbit/s, through the simultaneous transmission of multiple copper lines. In addition, this technique has very high availability since it is almost impossible to break all the copper lines and in the event of a partial break, the link continues transmitting and reduces the bandwidth proportionally.
Fiber optics and copper complement each other ideally in the metropolitan area, offering full coverage to any service to be deployed.
Benefits
The benefits that Metro Ethernet offers are:
• - Practically "universal" presence and capillarity in the metropolitan area. Especially thanks to the availability of copper lines, with universal coverage in urban areas.
• - Very high reliability, since the Metro Ethernet certified copper links are made up of multiple pairs of copper lines (MAN LOOP) and the Fiber Optic links are configured using Spanning tree (active-passive) or LACP (Aggregate flow).
• - Easy use: Interconnecting with Ethernet simplifies network operations, administration, management and updating.
• - Economy: Ethernet services reduce subscription and operating capital in three ways:
- Wide use: Ethernet interfaces are used, which are the most widespread for Networking solutions
