Metabolist architecture
Introduction
The Metabolist Movement is a contemporary architectural movement made up of a group of Japanese architects and urban planners united under the name of the Metabolists united by Kenzō Tange.
It was founded in 1959. They had an idea of the city of the future inhabited by a mass society, characterized by large scales, flexible and extensible structures with organic-like growth. They were influenced by Archigram's ideas and drawings.
In his view, the traditional laws of form and function in architecture were obsolete. They believed in a profound influence of space and functionality on the society and culture of the future.
Some of the best-known projects included in this movement are the floating city in the sea (Unabara project), the tower city of Kiyonori Kikutake, the wall city, the agricultural city and the Helix City of Kishō Kurokawa.
