Plaza Mayor Medellín Conventions and Exhibitions is the International Convention and Exhibition Center of the Colombian city of Medellín. It is located in the Alpujarra sector and its shareholders are the Mayor's Office of Medellín, the Chamber of Commerce of Medellín, the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia and the Government of Antioquia.
History
On May 31, 2002, a company was established that had the purpose of exhibiting the industrial, commercial and cultural strengths of the city, becoming the engine of economic and social development. This company was inaugurated on August 21, 1976 and is known as “Palacio de Expósitos y Convenciones de Medellín S.A.”, the first fairs held in this space being TexModa and Expocamacol).
The Exhibition Palace has an area of 50,000 m² and a covered exhibition area of 12,000 m² distributed in four large pavilions joined by a central hall.
It has the capacity to hold several independent events simultaneously.
This space organizes several fairs and exhibitions. It is a member of the Association of International Fairs of America (AFIDA) and its processes comply with the NTC-ISO 9001 version 2000 standard.
The Convention Center is born
Between 1993 and 2001, the Departmental and Municipal administrations conceived different ideas for a Convention Center, different locations were studied, getting the National Federation of Coffee Growers to provide the property and the license of the World Trade Center and international hotel chains were considered.
In 2001, the Municipality of Medellín, the National Federation of Coffee Growers, the Medellín Chamber of Commerce for Antioquia and the IDEA agreed to provide physical and financial resources for the construction of the Convention Center, thus taking the first step towards the consolidation of Plaza Mayor Medellín.
There it was agreed that the objective of the project was to promote the carrying out of modern business and commercial activities, generate spaces for holding events and conventions with national and international projection that complement the actions regarding competitiveness and internationalization of Medellín and promote a civic culture - Social profitability, well-being, quality of life and construction of citizenship.

On July 3, 2003, the construction of the Convention Center began by Conconcreto – Convilla AIA), thanks to the contributions of the Mayor's Office of Medellín, the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia, the Chamber of Commerce of Medellín for Antioquia and the Antioquia Development Institute. Simultaneously, Corporate was contracted to create the brand "Plaza Mayor", having as a parameter that this city concept will show the founding site of population, a meeting point for the community, the Banderas Park and the gathering of people.

In March 2006, the integration of the Medellín S.A. Exhibition and Convention Palace was carried out. and the International Convention Center Ltda. With this, Plaza Mayor Medellín S.A. was born, which seeks to consolidate Medellín as a tourist destination for business, fairs and conventions, since from the 90s until today all municipal and departmental administrations have worked in that direction.
Plaza Mayor has hosted national and international events such as the General Assembly of the OAS, the General Assembly of the IDB, Colombiamoda, Colombiatex"), Expocamacol") and Feria de las Ruedas. Making all this of the city a focus of attraction in aspects of economy, business and tourism of all kinds, among which is medical tourism.
