Mass dampers
Introduction
A mass damper (in English, mass damper) is a vibration absorption system by swinging a hanging counterweight.
It is used both in large constructions to protect against earthquakes, such as the Taipei 101 skyscraper, and to improve mechanical adhesion to the asphalt in racing vehicles. It was used by the Renault team, Ferrari, McLaren-Mercedes and other teams during the 2005 and 2006 Formula 1 seasons until its use was banned by the FIA in August 2006.[1] This system is based on the vibration damping system that buildings in areas with the greatest risk of earthquakes, such as Japan or Chile, have.
