Mapping of territorial vulnerabilities
Introduction
A vulnerability map of a certain geographic area, faced with the possibility of damage occurring there due to hydrogeological events, is based on the natural characteristics of the terrain, such as:
• - topography;.
• - geology;.
• - presence of active geological faults.
• - geomechanical conditions.
Also consider the water characteristics of the mapped area, such as:
• - presence of water courses and their water regime;
• - presence of lakes and lagoons, considering their level fluctuations;
• - aquifer recharge zones;
• - low coastal zones "Coastal zone (ecology)".
The vulnerability map allows protection measures to be programmed, if the most vulnerable areas must be used, and to regulate those uses that carry less risk. It is an important instrument to achieve sustainable human and environmental development.
