Lever House Building
Introduction
Lever House, designed by Gordon Bunshaft of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, is a skyscraper located at 390 Park Avenue in New York, in front of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's Seagram Building.
History
Lever House was built between 1951 and 1952 to house the headquarters of the British company Lever Brothers. The façade of the building is made of sparkling blue-green glass that resists heat and stainless steel on the walls. The steel-clad wall was designed to reduce maintenance costs, it is completely closed, without windows. This means that less garbage and dust enter the building. The heat resistance of glass also helps reduce air conditioning costs.
