Laminated Steel Angles
Introduction
Steel or rolled iron is a type of steel manufactured from the pig iron that comes out of the steelmaking blast furnace and is converted into raw steel cast into ingots of great weight and size, which is subsequently laminated to obtain the multiple types of commercial profiles that exist, according to the use that will be given to it.
The rolling process consists of previously heating the molten steel ingots to a temperature that allows the deformation of the ingot through a stretching and grinding process that occurs in a chain of pressure cylinders called a rolling mill.
These cylinders form the desired profile until the appropriate measurements are achieved. The dimensions of the steel obtained do not have very tight tolerances and that is why rolled products often have to be subjected to machining phases to adjust their tolerance.
The type of profile of the steel beams, and the qualities they have, are determining factors in the choice for their application and use in engineering and architecture. Among their properties are their shape or profile, their weight, particularities and chemical composition of the material with which they were made, and their length.
Among the best-known and most commercial sections, which are provided according to the regulations that cover it, are the following types of laminates. The cross-sectional area of the steel laminate greatly influences the resistance it offers to the forces to which it will be subjected.
In Spain, all the dimensions of the cross sections of the profiles are standardized in accordance with the Technical Building Code.
Structural angles L
It is the rolled steel product that is made in equal parts that are located equidistantly in the cross section in order to maintain a harmony of symmetry, at right angles. Its use is based on the manufacture of structures for large-span roofs, naval industry, industrial plants, warehouses, transmission towers, bodies, and also for the construction of doors and other accessories in the construction of houses.
H Beams
Laminated steel product that is created hot, whose section has the shape of an H. There are various variants such as the IPN profile, the IPE profile or the HE profile, all of them with a regular and prismatic shape.
