Phases of the development process
The person in charge of the review process of the ISO 14001 standard from 2004 and future standard development is the committee TC 207/SC1, its Secretary falls to the British Standards Institution (BSI).
From the first version of the ISO 14001:1996 standard to the current version, 7 years have passed. The next version will be made public in 2015, after 11 years have passed. ISO periodically reviews this type of international standards to ensure that the contents and requirements are up to date and to facilitate adaptation to the latest trends and regulatory changes.
The review process has an expected duration of 3 years. The first meetings held by this committee were held during 2012, since then more meetings have been held that have led to the preparation of documents in which the changes made to ISO 14001 are appreciated.
