International asset maintenance
Introduction
ISO 55001 is the international standard that allows certification of Asset Management carried out by an organization under international standards. This standard is compatible with the rest of the integrated management system standards, such as Quality (ISO 9001), Environment (ISO 14001), Safety (ISO 45001), Energy Efficiency (ISO 50001), etc.
This standard is particularly relevant in capital-intensive industries that manage significant physical assets. It was published in January 2014 and establishes specific requirements not only for the implementation and maintenance of an asset, but also for its improvement through an asset management system.[1] It is heir to the British standard PAS-55, but expands its scope, which only included physical assets, to any type of goods or resources with value to an organization, whether it is a company or not.
The ultimate goal of certification under the ISO 55001 standard is to create a new seal that guarantees clients, investors and society in general that the management of an organization's assets and resources are in professional hands.
Other standards in the same family are ISO 55000 (definitions) and ISO 55002 (implementation guide).[2].
