Intermunicipal strategy
Introduction
The Intermunicipal Association of Vinalopó is a group of municipalities in the Valencian Community, Spain. Located in the center of the province of Alicante and in the regions of Vinalopó Medio and Alto Vinalopó, it includes the municipalities, in order from largest to smallest population, Elda, Petrel "Petrel (Alicante)"), Monóvar and Sax. It has 109,119 inhabitants (INE "National Institute of Statistics (Spain)") 2019).[2].
Geography
The Vinalopó Commonwealth is located between the southeastern slope of the Alto Vinalopó and the north of the Medio Vinalopó. The area it covers is 365.55 km² and occupies a rugged valley with altitudes of around 430 meters, its highest peak being the summit of the Sierra del Cid de Petrel "Petrel (Alicante)") with 1391, which is part of the Sierra del Cid y del Maigmó Natural Area. The climate is continental Mediterranean.

El clima es típicamente mediterráneo: de inviernos frescos, veranos cálidos e irregularidad de lluvias, normalmente en primavera y otoño. El municipio más propenso a ser nevado es Sax, debido a que es de las cuatro ciudades la que cuenta con mayor altitud sobre el nivel del mar; no obstante también se han registrado grandes nevadas en el resto de la mancomunidad. Las mínimas medias llegan hasta los 7,2 °C en invierno y las máximas medias rondan los 25,4 °C en verano.

The Vinalopó Commonwealth borders the municipalities of Agost, Aspe, Biar, Castalla, Monforte del Cid, Novelda, La Romana "La Romana (Alicante)"), Pinoso, Salinas "Salinas (Alicante)") and Villena.
History
Commonwealth of Elda, Petrel and its region
On Saturday, January 27, 1973, the “Intermunicipal Association of Elda, Petrel and its Region” was established for the first time after its creation was established by decree in the Official State Gazette on November 16, 1972.[3].
