Industrial Stoneware Tiles
Definition
Introduction to industrial stoneware tiles
Industrial stoneware tiles are ceramic coatings specially designed to withstand extreme conditions in industrial environments. They are characterized by their high mechanical resistance, durability and ability to resist chemical and abrasive agents. This type of tile is essential to guarantee safety and functionality in spaces where the demand for wear resistance is critical.
Stoneware, the base material for these tiles, is obtained by firing a mixture of clays and other minerals at high temperatures, which generates a product with low porosity and great resistance. Industrial stoneware tiles may also have special treatments or finishes to improve their specific properties depending on the use that will be given to them.
Technical Characteristics of Industrial Stoneware
Composition and manufacturing process
Industrial stoneware tiles are made from a homogeneous mixture of clays, feldspars, sand and other minerals. This mixture is subjected to a dry pressing process and subsequently fired at temperatures that can exceed 1200 °C. This process allows us to obtain a compact material, with low water absorption and high resistance to impacts and abrasion.
Rigorous control of raw materials and the cooking process is essential to guarantee the uniformity and quality of the final product. In addition, some tiles may incorporate specific additives or coatings to increase their chemical resistance or improve surface properties such as anti-slip properties.
This manufacturing process gives stoneware tiles a glassy and compact structure, which differentiates them from other less resistant and more porous ceramic coatings, ideal for demanding industrial environments.
Physical and mechanical properties
Among the notable physical properties of industrial stoneware is its low porosity, typically less than 0.5%, which gives it great impermeability and resistance to liquid absorption. This feature is crucial to avoid damage from moisture or corrosive agents.
