Industrial shelving
Definition
General concept of industrial shelving
These structures can be manufactured in various materials, mainly steel, and have multiple configurations to adapt to different types of products, volumes and weights. They are essential in the modern supply chain, as they allow streamlining storage, picking and stock control processes, contributing significantly to business productivity.
Types of industrial shelving
Selective shelving
Selective racking is the most common and versatile type in industrial warehouses. They are designed to allow direct access to each pallet or stored unit without having to move other elements, facilitating the management of inventories with high turnover. This feature makes them ideal for warehouses with varied products and different sizes.
These shelves are made up of vertical frames and adjustable horizontal beams, which makes it possible to modify the height between levels according to the need of the product. In addition, its modular structure allows rapid installation and reconfiguration, adapting to changes in warehouse operation.
Although they offer great accessibility, their volume storage capacity is not as high as other systems, since they require wide aisles for the passage of handling equipment such as forklifts.
Double depth shelving
Double-depth racking is a variant of selective racking, where the beams support pallets placed in a double row, one behind the other. This increases storage capacity by reducing the number of aisles needed, optimizing the use of floor space.
