Industrial Safety Training
Introduction to Industrial Safety Training
Definition and purpose of industrial safety training
Industrial safety training is a systematic process aimed at training and updating workers and managers within an organization in aspects related to the prevention of occupational risks. Its main objective is to promote a safe and healthy work environment, avoiding accidents, occupational illnesses and material damage. This training is based on current regulations and international best practices that seek to guarantee the physical and mental integrity of employees.
Beyond simple instruction, industrial safety training seeks to generate a preventive culture, where each worker recognizes the risks inherent to their activities and acts proactively to minimize them. This involves not only transmitting technical knowledge, but also promoting responsible attitudes and safe habits that contribute to the sustainability of the company.
Fundamentals and Regulations of Industrial Safety Training
Applicable national and international regulations
Industrial safety training is regulated by various regulations and standards that vary by country, but which essentially share common labor protection objectives. Among the international regulations, the guidelines of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) stand out. In Mexico, for example, the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) establishes specific regulations that companies must comply with.
These regulations require organizations to implement continuous training programs, ranging from initial induction to periodic updating, ensuring that staff understand and apply preventive measures. In addition, they stipulate the documentation and monitoring of training activities to ensure their effectiveness and legal compliance.
Additionally, there are technical standards such as NOM-029-STPS-2011 for prevention and protection against risks in electrical work, or NOM-017-STPS-2008 on personal protective equipment, which guide the specific content of the training. These help standardize knowledge and ensure the quality of the training provided.
