HTC LIVE
Introduction
Vive are virtual reality glasses manufactured by HTC and Valve. The device is designed to utilize the space in a room and immerse yourself in a virtual world in which the user is allowed to walk around and use controllers to interact with virtual objects. It was revealed during Mobile World Congress in March 2015, and during CES 2016, Vive won more than 22 awards.
Development
In 2014, prototypes of a virtual reality system produced by the Valve company were shown. On February 23, 2015, it was announced that a SteamVR hardware system would be shown during that year's Game Developers Corference.
On February 29, 2016, online orders were opened for the Vive, which would be delivered in April of that year, with a retail price of $777 in the US and €899 in the EU, plus shipping costs.[7].
Technical specifications
HTC claims that the Vive has a 90 Hz refresh rate. The device uses two displays, one for each eye, each with a resolution of 1080x1200.[8] It uses more than 70 sensors, including a MEMS gyroscope, accelerometers and laser sensors, and is made to operate in a tracking area of 4.6 meters by 4.6 meters, having an accuracy of less than a millimeter.[9] The tracking system, called Lighthouse, was designed by Alan Yates and uses photo sensors to track objects; To avoid occlusion problems, the Vive combines two Lighthouses that sweep an entire space with structured light lasers.[10].
The front camera allows you to detect any object, static or moving, in an area; This function also serves as a safety system, showing the real world to prevent users from colliding with objects.[5][11].
Games
The headset is compatible with hundreds of games available on the Steam platform. In addition, HTC has its own platform called Viveport, which has a subscription service similar to Xbox Game Pass, which offers unlimited access to more than 700 different games, as well as specialized services for entertainment centers and workplaces. When it was released, the viewer had 3 titles (Job Simulator, and ) included for free with the purchase of a Vive.[12].
