High visibility clothing
Introduction
High visibility clothing is a type of clothing worn with highly reflective properties, or colors that are easily noticeable from any background. A common example is the yellow vests used by emergency services. There are work environments, where it is important to be seen in order to avoid accidents (such as accidents or accidents at work). To reduce the number of accidents in these cases, regulations for work clothing were developed.[1].
Being seen, in some work environments, is the best way to protect the worker. This is the main function of high visibility clothing but it is not the only one, it also seeks to signal and visually underline the presence of the person wearing it (as is the case of law enforcement).
High visibility work clothing is characterized by being made with two types of materials:.
The correct combination of these materials is what provides the necessary qualities to improve daytime visibility and correctly return light at night, increasing safety based on the specific risk to which some workers are subjected.[2].
International regulations and standards
High visibility clothing is regulated by several regulations that guarantee its effectiveness in low visibility conditions. Some of the main rules are:
These regulations ensure that clothing meets minimum visibility requirements, protecting workers in hazardous environments. Certified garments carry labels indicating compliance.
Applications in different industries
High visibility clothing is essential in several industries where worker safety depends on being clearly visible in low visibility conditions. Some of the main applications include:.
