This power plant serves many faculties of the current Complutense University of Madrid. Other more recent examples are Colonia de la Esperanza, Barrio Altamira or Meseta de Orcasitas.

The government of the province of Neuquén, Argentina, in the 1980s, studied and drilled two holes at the foot of the Copahue volcano for geothermal purposes, which led to the installation of a pilot power generating plant to supply to the town of Caviahue-Copahue. This facility was not used and an investment competition is currently being promoted in order to install an energy generation plant using said resource.

At the same time, and to take advantage of the geothermal fluids, it made a significant investment to heat the streets of the Copahue Thermal Tourist Center and keep the center open in winter, since the Center is located at 2000 and in normal winters it cannot be accessed due to the accumulation of snow. These hot springs had already been studied in the 1950s by the scientist Gregorio Álvarez "Gregorio Álvarez (historian)").[3] Thus, in 1999, a radiant floor street heating system was inaugurated in Copahue. This allows the heat to keep the streets thawed, and thus makes it possible to extend the seasons, by also resolving the issue of sweeping away the accumulation of snow at the access from Caviahue. This system takes geothermal steam from wells at a depth of 1,300 m - with a temperature greater than 110 °C - and distributes it under the streets through 45,000 m of stainless pipes. The heat they release prevents the accumulation of snow or ice. The next stage, still unfinished as of 2010, is to heat all the buildings with geothermal energy. Something like the rational use of the resource, which today is wasted.
