Introduction
The Onepoto Bridge (in English: Onepoto Bridge) is a 46 m long pedestrian and cycle bridge in a bush and tidal current area of the Onepoto area of the North Shore town of Auckland, New Zealand. The bridge became necessary following the widening of Onewa Road to State Highway 1 as the bridge was too narrow to carry trails. After deciding to build a new bridge, the North Shore City Council resolved to build an iconic structure that would create "architecture integrated into the landscape." This resulted in the current structure of the bridge which is enclosed with curved wooden 'ribs' that have been described as looking like a whale skeleton, a wave or a half-finished sailing ship. The bridge was designed by Beca Group.[1] The bridge is also part of the North Shore City Strategic Cycle Route Network and is being incorporated as part of the works to better access the local estuary area for the community.[2].
