Geological risk mapping
Introduction
The Commission on the Geological Map of the World (CCGM in French or CGMW in English) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) in the field of Earth sciences, whose objectives are the creation and dissemination of maps of its area, geological, geophysical, natural resources, climate, etc., on a small scale "Scale (cartography)"): continents, oceans or large regions of the planet. Its members are national geological surveys and other official organizations. At the same time, it is a member of the International Union of Geological Sciences since its foundation in 1961 and is recognized by UNESCO as an A-rank NGO.[1]
It is the second oldest international organization in the field of Earth Sciences, after the International Geological Congress. It has its roots in 1881, at the second International Geological Congress, when a committee was formed to draw up a geological map of the world. The Commission was formalized in 1913 within the twelfth International Geological Congress and, since then, has had its permanent headquarters in Paris.[1].
The color table used to represent the different chronostratigraphic units in the geological maps composed by the Commission on the Geological Map of the World has been adopted by the International Stratigraphic Commission as standard colors for the geological time scale.[2].
Organization
Contenido
