Garbage Cans and Garbage Cans
Introduction
A cube "Cube (container)"), cane "Canister (container)") or Garbage Container, also called zafacón or safacón[1] in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, tacho in Peru, Ecuador, Argentina and Bolivia[2], tinaco in Panama, or trash in several other countries; is a container used for temporary storage of garbage that is usually made of metal or plastic. The large garbage container is also called dump.[3].
Most trash cans have a top lid to avoid odors and prevent the presence of harmful fauna, such as animals or insects, some have pedals that open the lid when stepped on.
A garbage bag is usually placed in indoor garbage cans to facilitate the removal of waste.
Street containers are typically of three types: buckets (metal receptacles often made of tin or steel), containers (large vat-like receptacles&action=edit&redlink=1 "Cuba (container) (not yet drafted)"), and wheeled bins (lightweight buckets, usually plastic, easy to move).
All of them are emptied by garbage collectors, who dump their contents into a garbage truck that is taken to a waste sorting plant, a recycling plant, a landfill "Landfill (garbage)") or incinerator to be emptied.
Some residential buildings have vertical garbage cans that are usually ramps or internal garbage chutes, systems designed so that residents can dispose of their waste without having to leave their homes. These bins are usually located in the hallways or common areas of each floor and lead directly to a large receptacle or garbage container located in the basement or in a specific area of the building. Depending on the design, some facilities have separate compartments for the classification of recyclable and organic waste, facilitating its management. In addition, these systems help improve hygiene and reduce odors in living areas, in addition to facilitating waste disposal, minimizing accumulation in the hallways or common spaces of the building.
There is also the recycling bin, a version of the traditional bin designed to receive objects that can be recycled to make new products. These buckets are classified into different categories (usually represented by colors) that determine what can be deposited in them, for example glass, paper, plastics, among others. The contents of this bucket are taken to a recycling plant to be processed.
