Flat solar collector
Introduction
A flat solar collector is the most common type of solar collector. It is a device that is used to harness the energy of solar radiation, transforming it into low-temperature thermal energy for domestic or commercial uses – heating, hot water and pool air conditioning, fundamentally. It is the main component of a solar heater.

Los captadores solares planos pueden clasificarse en dos grandes grupos:.
Protected flat collectors
They are the most used because they have the most favorable "cost-heat production" relationship. In them, the collector is located in a rectangular box, whose usual dimensions range between 80 and 120 cm wide, 150 and 200 cm high, and 5 and 10 cm thick, although there are larger models. The side exposed to the sun is covered by glass (usually tempered), while the remaining five sides are opaque and thermally insulated.
Inside the box, exposed to the sun, there is a metal plate. This plate is attached or welded to a series of pipes through which a heat transfer (generally water, glycol, or a mixture of both) flows. A selective treatment is applied to said plate to increase its heat absorption, or it is simply painted black.
Unprotected flat collectors
They are an economical variant of the previous ones where the protective glass is removed, leaving the plate directly exposed to the outside environment. They also lack perimeter insulation.
Given the immediacy and simplicity of this type of panel, there are many subvariants in both shapes and materials: conceptually, a simple coiled hose painted black is, in essence, an unprotected flat solar collector.
Due to their limited efficiency, they require a larger surface area to achieve the desired performance, but they compensate for this with their low cost.
