Types of Fire Prevention Equipment
Detection and alarm equipment
Detection and alarm equipment are devices designed to identify the presence of a fire in its initial phases and alert occupants and emergency systems. Among the most common are smoke detectors, heat detectors, gas detectors and automatic audible and visual alarm systems.
Smoke detectors are the most used and work by capturing combustion particles in the air. Some advanced systems incorporate aspiration detection technology or spectral analysis, allowing for a faster and more accurate response to a possible fire.
These equipment are generally integrated into centralized fire alarm systems, which can activate automatic sprinklers, evacuation systems and notifications to fire departments or surveillance.
Automatic extinguishing systems
Automatic extinguishing systems are designed to activate fire suppression without human intervention, using specific extinguishing agents. The most common are automatic sprinkler systems, inert gas or chemical agent systems, and foam systems.
Automatic sprinklers consist of a network of pipes with heads that are activated by heat, releasing water to control or extinguish the fire. They are widely used in commercial and industrial buildings due to their effectiveness and speed.
